Srinagar, Jan 31: Jammu and Kashmir Police have filed an FIR against two independent media outlets for spreading fake news, after authorities at Jamia Siraj-Ul-Uloom, a religious institution located in Imamsahib area of South Kashmir's Shopian on Sunday negated the news reports of any 'pressure' from Army in organizing republic day function in the institution.

A purported copy of clarification issued under the letterhead of the institution, a copy of which lies with News Agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), reads, "On 26th of January, celebration of republic day took place in the vicinity of an educational institution Jamia Siraj Ul Uloom at Imamsahib Shopian. Local people, students and administration participated in the ceremony."

"There was not any compulsion on behalf of any army personnel and police. The celebration ended with peace and pleasure," the letter reads, "The news item appeared in news portal Kashmiriyat and Kashmir Walla regarding pressure for organizing such events and the hand of security agencies is negated as being a totally baseless allegation,” the letter added.

Earlier, the institution was making headlines after few independent media outlets had reported that the Institute was pressurized by the army to hold R-Day function.

Meanwhile, 44 RR Unit of Indian Army and the institution together have filed a case against 'The Kashmiriyat' and 'The Kashmir Walla', two independent media outlets for reporting the news without taking facts into consideration thereby maligning the image of the Army.

A police official while confirming the registration of FIR against the duo outlets said that an FIR number 06/2021 under sections 153, 505 IPC stands registered adding that further investigations pertaining to the incident are on. (KDC)
