Srinagar- Three unidentified militants have been killed and two army soldiers injured in the ongoing encounter that broke out in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Thursday, police said.
State forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shopian town after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at a search party of the forces, who retaliated.
Three unidentified militants have been killed so far, the official said, adding that the operation was still in progress.
Reports said that two army soldiers were also injured in the firefight. Both the soldiers have been shifted to 92 Base hospital for treatment.
