Will support, uplift organic agri sector in the valley: Additional Secretary MoA

Produce from Gurez available for sale at Vegetable Market Lalmandi: Dir Agri Kashmir

Srinagar: Additional Secretary Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operatives Vivek Agarwal concluded his five days visit today by inspecting organic vegetable market Lalmandi Srinagar. He inspected different organically grown vegetable and exotic vegetable market set up by the Directorate of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion Additional Secretary said organic farming is being acknowledged as crop production system which can sustain health of soils, ecosystem and people by combining tradition, innovation and improved farm technology. He said this region having best agro climatic conditions for organic farming can also increase employment opportunities for farmers as well as educated unemployed youth. He further added that the Ministry of Agriculture GOI will provide all support and help for upliftment of the organic sector in the valley.
Vivek said these centers are providing better opportunities to the sellers and consumers for bringing right product at right price.
Director Agriculture Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal during the visit briefed Additional Secretary need of setting up this center and added that this centre is being acknowledged by the elite class of society and common people, as they can purchase organic as well as exotic vegetables from this center on reasonable prices.
While elaborating the organic success in the valley Director Agriculture briefed that organic vegetables are becoming an integral part of regular food consumption, for which the department is taking various initiatives, as such providing space to the growers is a hand holding initiative.
Chowdhary Iqbal said from today for the first time since establishment of Organic Vegetable Market Lalmandi Black Cumin (Kala Zeera), Pulses and Honey from Gurez Valley will be available for sale .
Later Additional Secretary flagged off Two Vegetable Laden refrigerated Vans to different Mandis of the Valley from Lalmandi.
MD JKHPMC Shafat Sultan, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Farooq Ahmad Shah, Joint Director Extension Mohammad Qasim Gani, Joint Director Farms Dr. Syed Waseem Ahmad Shah, Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar Mohammad Younis Chowdhary various progressive farmers and growers were present on the occassion.
