As part of the ongoing Jashn-e-Azadi celebrations being organised in Gurez by the Indian Army, the fourth day of the mega event witnessed the high octane Jashn-e-Azadi Marathon and Walkathon. The event was organised with an aim to rejuvenate the enthusiasm, energy and pride of Independence Day amongst youngsters, women folk and Awam of the Gurez valley. The event witnessed high levels of enthusiasm, energy and mass participation from the Awam and Jawan.
The event was flagged off from the Dawar Helipad.
The events comprised of a 10 km Mini Marathon for the youth and Jawans of the Indian Army, a 3 km run for fun for the school children and walkathon for the school girls and ladies of the Gurez valley. More than 200 individuals participated in the colorful event which was filled with patriotism and josh. The participants shouted slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” as they sped past the start line. The scenes of Jawan and awam motivating and pulling each other throughout the run, children with happy faces posing for the camera while running, girls walking with josh during the Walkathon to win the medals were all heartwarming moments of the high impact event. The awam came out of their houses onto the streets to witness the event and cheered for the participants.
The run culminated with interaction with the participants over refreshments and distribution of medals to the winners and participation certificates. The Awam welcomed this initiative by the army and thoroughly enjoyed the event and are now eagerly looking forward for the grand finale of the the Jashn-e-Azadi celebration on 14th and 15th Aug at the Army Helipad Ground in Dawar, where a plethora of colorful events are being organised such as Village Games, Jashn-e-Azadi mela(comprising of food and game stalls), Pony race, Cultural programs, para gliding display and Free fall Jumps by the Para Special Forces.
