MEGA CLEANLINESS DRIVE IN GUREZ

A mega cleanliness drive was conducted today at the Dawar market in Gurez by the Army and District Administration, Bandipora in collaboration with Helping Hands society, and the Awam of Gurez to spread awareness and to make Gurez a plastic free zone. The event is being organised in consonance with the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiatives of the Prime Minister of India.

SDM Gurez, Dr Mudasir Ah Wani and Tehsildar Gurez, Mr Tariq Ah Bhatt inaugurated the cleanliness drive at Dawar Market after which, more than 200 volunteers took to the streets of Gurez raising slogans such as “Gurez Saj Raha Hai, Jashn-e-Gurez Ke Liye” and “Go Green Go Gurez” while voluntarily cleaning streets of the Dawar market.

3. The cleanliness drive is also a prelude to the week long festival “Jashn-e-Azadi” which is being organised by the Army from 09 Aug to 15 Aug 21 in Gurez to commemorate India’s 75th year of Independence and to promote the rich cultural heritage of Gurez. These initiatives are being taken up by the Army & Civil Administration for attracting tourists to the beautiful hamlets in the Gurez valley.

Thus far, this year more than 5,000 tourists have flocked Gurez and the locals have converted their houses as Guest Houses and have established tented colonies to accommodate the increasing numbers of tourists.

The cleanliness drive organised today was a strong message from the Awam of Gurez that Gurez is now ready to host more tourists and is voluntarily cleaning and embelishing Gurez for the upcoming Festival and to welcome more tourists.
