Police file FIR to probe temple desecration in Anantnag

: The Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday registered an FIR after a temple was allegedly desecrated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.

The incident reportedly took place in Bargheshekha Bhagwati Mata temple at the Mattan area in the Anantnag district.

The police, in a statement, said that at about 2:10 PM on Saturday “it was learnt through reliable sources that Barghshikha Bhavani temple at Mattan mountain ridge has been desecrated and defiled by some miscreants.”

The police filed an FIR (No 93/2021) under sections 295 and 427 IPC was registered and an investigation was set into motion.

“Considering the sensitivity of the case, a special investigation team was constituted by SSP Anantnag headed by DYSP Hqrs Anantnag and basic formalities were conducted on the spot and further investigation is going on,” the statement read.

The Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla, said that such immoral and illegal acts will not be tolerated and the culprits will be penalised as per relevant provisions of the law.

“Nobody will be allowed to harm or disrupt the social and communal harmony in society,” the deputy commissioner added.
