As the snow cricket tournament on frozen track in north Kashmir Gurez Tehsil has come to an end, people living in this border area have now organized a football tournament on the frozen snow ground to maintain the government and tourist attraction.

Notably, for the last few years cricket on the frozen grounds has become popular among the residents of this snow bound Gurez valley as the place has the potential to become a hub of winter sports.

As per the news agency, the youngsters have now started the football tournament there to keep the attention of tourists and administration. “This valley has a lot of potential for tourists and we will not hide it. We are trying to promote tourism in this area in any way possible,” they said.

The locals said that a few years ago, the people of this valley migrated from here and settled in other places during the winter season. But now, considering the internet and other facilities here, the same people thought it appropriate to stay here.

“We will leave no stone unturned to promote tourism in Gurez tehsil, because now there is a peaceful environment which is the greatest joy for the people here, ” Sameer, a local guy from the area said, adding that this valley just needs the attention of the government now.

Musaib another local said that he wants to see Gurez as a tourist hub through which the poor people of Gurez will also get employment and this valley will also become famous.

Earlier, last month, videos of cricket in the snow at Gurez were shared by the international cricketers on social media.

Last year the government had opened Gurez for summer tourism and the place was also promoted vigorously which in turn attracted tourists throughout the summer—
