Two Civilians were fired upon by Army during an argument in Handwara

Two Civilians were injured in the Handwara area of Kupwara district after Government forces allegedly opened fire upon civilians in the north Kashmir area.
Hospital officials confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that two civilians were brought to the hospital with firearm injuries.

“We have received two youth in their twenties with firearm injuries. They are being treated at Sub-district hospital Handwara and their condition is stable,” the Medical Superintendent of Handwara hospital said.

Dr. Nisar Ahmed Wani identified the two as Mujeeeb u Rehman, a resident of Handwara aged 22, and Abdul Ahad Mir, a resident of Rajwar, aged 24. He said the duo has received injuries in their left thigh.

Locals from Handwara speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that during Zuhr Prayers some Government force personnel appeared in the Masjid premises clicking photographs, to which the locals objected.
The initial argument led to a heated exchange of words and during this verbal brawl, suddenly the forces opened fire on the people, resulting in two injuries,” they said.

The two have been shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment.

“Some personnel from 21 RR of the Indian had gone to Jamia Masjid Handwara for making video of Namaz during which some people objected which resulted in an argument between army and civilians,” a Police official said.

During the argument, there was “accidental” fire and two persons received injuries in their legs, the official said.
