Sheikh Mohammad Imran demands early release of Er. Rashid



"His release is imperative for democracy to flourish in Kashmir division"

Srinagar, July 14: Former Deputy Mayor SMC Sheikh Mohammad Imran on Thursday urged the Lt. Governor led government to expedite the early release of incarcerated mainstream leader Er. Rashid on humanitarian grounds. 

In a statement issued to the media, Imran termed his release highly imperative while referring to him as the "son of the soil" who served the people under the ambit of the Constitution.
  
"He is an efficient leader who was elected democratically by a thumping majority of the people. He would always listen to the public grievances & resolve their matters. People need this stalwart leader to represent their socio-political and economic aspirations in the Legislative Assembly," he said.

Imran asserted that he is of the firm belief that Er. Rashid will continue to abide by the law & democratic values. "His release will undoubtedly further strengthen the roots of democracy in Kashmir division and will reflect the true empowerment of public opinion," he added.

He also urged that all politicians and civil society members should leave their trivial differences and unanimously push for the early release of Er. Rashid who has spent nearly two years under imprisonment now.
