“Rap” is said to stand for “rhythm and poetry.”
Hip-hop in Kashmir started with strong political overtones in 2010. It sounded promising when the earliest Kashmiri rappers, inspired by the likes of Tupac, talked about politics and conflict – Kashmiri youth had found a new medium to express themselves.
But intimidation by the Indian government, financial constraints and a lack of opportunity drew the rappers, either out of the Valley, or away from hip-hop.
Then came Aamir Chouhan , hailing from a border Area Mankote .He created some of hip-hop’s most timeless songs, such as “Murda hoon mein,” “aitraaf e jurm,” and “12 September .”
Now on this day Aamir revealed a new single Gareeb , which is an emotion by the artist. Gareeb is an initiative to empower equality among the classes.
“Emotion is energy in motion. Honour your truth and feelings. Eradicate fear. Boundaries are important,” said Aamir chouhan.
Rapper also shares cover art for much anticipated follow up.
