Srinagar- The residents of Shivpora locality took to the streets against the opening of a liquor shop in the vicinity. The residents marched from inner lanes of the locality to the main road.
Some Kashmiri Pandits who reside in the locality were also part of the protest.
The protestors voiced concern over the setting of a liquor shop in the area and urged the administration to close the shop at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons, Raviji Razdan, one of the protesters said that he has been living in the locality for the last 32 year. He, however, said the opening of liquor shop will badly affect the lives of locals, especially women.
“There was a liquor shop on the highway, we never objected to it, now opening a liquor store in the inner lane will spoil the careers of the students” Rajivi said.
Rajivi further said that there are at least three schools in the vicinity and a cinema hall has also been opened recently and this can badly affect the education of children.
“During night hours, it is going to be difficult for women to get back to their homes safely” Rajivji added.
He was flanked by other locals who were holding placards and raised slogans against the setting of the new liquor shop.
Pertinently, the Shivpora locality that falls under the jurisdiction of Badamibagh Cantonment Board. The shop had been earlier closed in October by the Badamibagh Cantonment authorities as it did not have the required permission.
