"I have always been a torch bearer of unity, brotherhood": Grand Mufti, Nasir-ul-Islam
Says, Shab-e-Qadr to be observed on April 17
Srinagar, Mar 28: Grand Mufti, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam on Tuesday said that Shab-e-Qadr will be observed on April 17 while as Eid moon will be sighted on April 20. He said in case moon is sighted on April 20, people will have to offer one day Qaza fasting after Eid.
He added that being a Grand Mufti he always believe in unity and brotherhood and avoided all such actions that could cause trouble and uncertainty in the Ummah.
He was speaking to reporters in Srinagar after meeting heads of several religious organizations. “Shab-e-Qadr will be observed on April 17. Moon sighting will be done on April 20 and if moon is sighted, people will have to offer one day Qaza fasting after Eid,” Grand Mufti said.
"We shouldn't make it an issue of win or lose. It is purely a religious issue. I am not here to create wedge in between the Ummah. I have been a torch bearer of unity and brotherhood. I believe in unity of the Ummah," Grand Mufti said and added, "Any decision regarding Eid will be made public after thorough consultation with Ulema. Besides MeT department will also be consulted before any announcement".
The meeting was participated by Moulana Rahmatullah Qasmi, Ghulam Rasool Hami, Prof Muhammad Tayib Kamili, Moulana Aga Syed Al Hassan Mousivi, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, Moulana Fayaz Ahmad Rizivi, Masroor Abbas Ansari and others.
Grand Mufti at the occasion demanded release of Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq, Moulana Abdur Rashid Dawodi and other Ulema who either have been lodged in and outside J&K jails or have been kept under house arrest.
