Police in Sitapur on Tuesday arrested a man claiming affiliation with the BJP on charges of causing death of a patient by blocking an ambulance that was taking him to a hospital in Lucknow.
The incident took place in the parking area of the district hospital in Sitapur purportedly on April 1.

The BJP, however, has denied any link with the accused, identified as Umesh Mishra of Hardoi district. When Umesh Mishra was told by a patient's relative that a life was lost because of his negligence, Mishra allegedly threatened and abused him.

The police lodged the case after a video of the incident, wherein Mishra is seen threatening the patient's brother-in-law Jai K Rathore, went viral on social media. In the video, Mishra claims that he is in the BJP and 'will ruin your (Rathore's) life'.
The patient was admitted with a heart ailment to the district hospital from where he was referred to a hospital in Lucknow, the SP added.

In the video, Mishra is purportedly heard saying, 'I will not let you live in Sitapur. My name is Umesh Mishra. I will ruin your life. I will make one call and you will be done. You should stay in your limits. You don't know whose car this is.'
The case was lodged against Mishra under sections 341 (wrongful restraint) 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

BJP's Hardoi district president Saurabh Mishra said that Umesh Mishra is not in the party's district unit. 'He is not our office-bearer or worker,' he claimed.
