INDIAN ARMY AND CHESS ASSOCIATION KUPWARA COME TOGETHER TO INSPIRE YOUNG MINDS THROUGH 6th DISTRICT CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir: In a remarkable effort to promote intellectual and strategic prowess among the youth of Kupwara, the Indian Army joined hands with the District Chess Association and Growth Sports Academy to organize the 6th District Chess Championship. The thrilling competition took place at Boys Higher Secondary School, Kupwara on 19th and 20th July, attracting a massive participation of 240 enthusiastic players from diverse age groups and backgrounds.

The event witnessed a unique convergence of intellect and sportsmanship, as the participants battled it out on the 64 squares with two sets of 16 pieces, skillfully maneuvering their way to victory.

Under the guidance of Aadil Manzoor Peer, a prominent Ice Stock and pencak silat player who recently represented India in international games, the championship proved to be a grand platform for young chess enthusiasts to showcase their talents and foster a deeper love for the game.

On 19th July 2023, the event commenced with a ceremonial inauguration graced by the presence of the Town Commander and Mr. Mehrajuddin, the esteemed Principal of Boys Higher Secondary School, Kupwara. Their encouraging words motivated the participants and set the stage for an intense competition that followed.

The championship was divided into multiple categories catering to various age groups, with players competing in Under 8, Under 10, Under 14, Under 19, and senior categories.

The eventual winners displayed remarkable talent and strategic acumen. In the Under 8 category, young Mohd Umair emerged as the champion, while Wani Uzair showcased exceptional skills to clinch the Under 10 title. The Under 14 category witnessed an intense battle, with Darakshan Farooq proving her mettle to claim the top spot. In the Under 19 category, it was Hamid Barkhiya who emerged victorious, leaving no doubt about his chess prowess. For the senior category, Nighat Amin stood tall as the winner, showcasing that age is no barrier when it comes to mastering the game of chess.

In recognition of their talent and dedication, the winners were felicitated with certificates, medals, and trophies. These accolades were a symbol of appreciation for their commitment to sports and outdoor activities, as they continue to inspire their peers and the entire community.

The collaboration between the Indian Army and the District Chess Association in organizing this prestigious event exemplifies the importance of nurturing intellectual growth alongside physical prowess.
