"Students’ association urges CM Omar Abdullah to halt recruitment under contentious reservation policy"
The Open Merit Students Association (OMSA) intensified its protest against the current reservation policy on Thursday, calling on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to release the minutes from their crucial meeting held earlier this week. The students’ body expressed dissatisfaction over the delay, which has left stakeholders in uncertainty about the government’s stance on contentious issues.
“Following our deliberations with the Hon’ble Chief Minister, it was communicated to us that an official press release detailing the minutes of the meeting would be issued immediately. However, more than 48 hours have passed, and no such statement has been released so far,” OMSA stated in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
OMSA emphasized the urgency of the matter, requesting the Chief Minister to expedite the release of the promised statement. “This will provide much-needed clarity to the concerned students, aspirants, and youth regarding the matters discussed during the meeting, including the assurances provided,” the association added.
The group highlighted that the press release would serve as a critical step in addressing immediate concerns, including actionable items discussed with the CM, and reaffirming a six-month timeline for resolving broader issues tied to the reservation policy.
Additionally, OMSA demanded a temporary halt to all recruitment processes under the existing system, arguing that it unfairly disadvantages open merit candidates. “We strongly urge the government to halt all recruitment processes until the review is completed and the reservation policy is rationalized, ensuring fairness and preventing further discrimination,” the statement read.
The association concluded by expressing hope for swift government action to address the concerns of all stakeholders, signaling their commitment to continued advocacy until equitable solutions are implemented.
