Doctor Defies Orders, Leaves Qalamabad Patients Stranded

Locals demand action as Dr. Feroz Hassan Khan refuses posting at Primary Health Centre Qalamabad despite urgent need

In a shocking instance of administrative defiance and disregard for public welfare, a doctor posted at Community Health Centre (CHC) Kralgund, Handwara, has been accused of outright refusal to comply with official orders to serve at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Qalamabad.

Dr. Feroz Hassan Khan was directed by the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Langate to report to PHC Qalamabad following an appeal from local residents who sought the availability of professional medical care in the region. The order, issued on December 24, 2024, explicitly instructed the doctor to begin work at the PHC “with immediate effect,” citing the necessity for smooth hospital operations and patient care.

However, more than a week later, the doctor has yet to comply. Residents of Qalamabad have expressed frustration and anger, accusing Dr. Feroz of blatant neglect and resistance. “This is a travesty. Our health facility is without a qualified doctor, and he is ignoring the orders because he doesn’t want to work in a rural area,” said a group of locals.

The absence of a doctor at PHC Qalamabad has left the residents struggling to access basic medical services. The situation has also raised serious concerns about the lack of accountability in the healthcare system. The locals have now appealed to higher authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, and BMO Langate, to intervene and ensure the doctor’s immediate compliance.

“The public health system cannot function if orders are disregarded. We demand swift action to resolve this issue and prioritize patient care,” the residents said.

As of now, the authorities have yet to take action against Dr. Feroz Hassan Khan, leaving the residents of Qalamabad to endure continued suffering.
