"Senior AIP Leader Calls for Equal Acknowledgment and Respect for Jammu and Kashmir’s Contribution".
In a compelling call for inclusivity and recognition, Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, senior leader of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and MLA from Langate, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on their Statehood Day. Drawing a parallel to the Prime Minister’s recent acknowledgment of Manipur’s Statehood Day, Sheikh Khursheed emphasized the importance of equal respect for all regions within the Union.
The MLA took to Twitter, quoting PM Modi’s tweet praising Manipur’s contribution to India’s development. “Hope @narendramodi ji greets people of J&K soon,” wrote Sheikh Khursheed, underscoring the growing sentiment among Jammu and Kashmir residents for parity in recognition and respect.
Speaking to The Kashmir Graph, Sheikh Khursheed highlighted the emotional and political significance of the demand. “The people of J&K deserve the same recognition and respect as other states in the Union. Extending greetings would be a significant step toward acknowledging their sentiments,” he stated.
This appeal also brings to focus the long-standing demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s Statehood, which was downgraded to a Union Territory in August 2019. “A gesture from the Prime Minister would reflect goodwill and foster inclusivity, reminding the people of J&K that their contributions to India are valued,” Sheikh Khursheed added.
As the debate around Jammu and Kashmir’s political future continues, Sheikh Khursheed’s statement sheds light on the region’s quest for acknowledgment and its aspirations for equitable treatment within the Indian Union.
