"Urgent Action Needed to Prevent Environmental Devastation and Protect Future Generations"

Karnah, Kupwara In a stark warning, MLA Karnah Javid Ahmad Mirchal has highlighted the growing menace of forest fires in the region, describing the situation as both alarming and deeply concerning. The escalating threat poses significant risks to the environment, wildlife, and human health, as uncontrolled fires continue to spread rapidly through the verdant forests and grasslands of Karnah.

Speaking on the issue, Mirchal emphasized, “Forest fires are devastating not only for our natural resources but also for the future of our community. These fires disrupt ecosystems, destroy biodiversity, and worsen air pollution and climate change by releasing massive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The health of our people, especially those with respiratory conditions, is also at stake.”

Citing the primary causes of forest fires—ranging from human negligence such as unattended campfires and discarded cigarette butts to arson and dry weather conditions—Mirchal issued a heartfelt plea to the people of Karnah. “I humbly urge everyone to stop visiting nearby forests for non-essential activities. For God’s sake, let us not destroy our future with reckless behavior,” he said.

He also called upon the District Administration Kupwara, Karnah Administration, the Office of Divisional Forest Officer Kehmil Kralpora, and the Range Officer Karnah to take immediate action against individuals involved in causing these fires, if any, and to intensify preventive measures. Mirchal urged the authorities and the Forest Department to establish firebreaks, enhance surveillance, and provide necessary resources to mitigate the risk.

Forest fires not only endanger the lush green landscape of Karnah but also jeopardize the fragile ecological balance, threatening countless species and livelihoods. With the region already grappling with the effects of climate change, Mirchal's appeal serves as a wake-up call to act before it is too late.

"Protecting our forests is a collective responsibility," Mirchal added. "We owe it to our children to safeguard this invaluable heritage. Prevention is our best defense against this escalating crisis."

The MLA's proactive stance highlights the urgency of addressing this critical issue, urging both authorities and citizens to come together to save Karnah’s forests and secure a sustainable future.
