"Four months without pensions for differently-abled, elderly, and widows; marriage assistance unpaid for 8 months despite pre-election vows to enhance social welfare schemes".
Jammu & Kashmir People's Conference chief Sajad Lone, in a scathing tweet, criticized the government for failing to pay pensions and marriage assistance to vulnerable sections of society. According to Lone, pensions for differently-abled persons, elderly, and widows have remained unpaid for four months, while marriage assistance for low-income families has been pending for eight months.
Lone also highlighted the gap between promises and delivery, reminding the government of its election manifesto commitment to increase pensions from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000 per month and marriage assistance from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000.
“Please at least pay what they were already getting,” urged Lone, underscoring the financial distress faced by thousands. His remarks have fueled growing discontent over the administration's handling of welfare programs in Jammu and Kashmir.
