JKPC Chief Sajad Lone Urges Examination Centres in Kupwara: "Remove Barriers to Academic Excellence"

"Calls on Kashmir University to Address the Hardships of Kupwara Students Traveling 100+ Kilometers for Exams"

JK People’s Conference President, Sajad Lone, has issued an impassioned plea to Kashmir University authorities, advocating for the establishment of examination centres in District Kupwara. The northernmost district of Jammu and Kashmir, Kupwara is geographically challenging, straddling the Line of Control, and its students currently face a daunting journey of over 100 kilometers to reach their examination centres.

In a series of tweets, Lone highlighted the significant toll this takes on students, particularly during the harsh winter months. "Not having an examination centre is a barrier to academic excellence," he wrote, emphasizing that such non-academic hardships could hinder academic performance.

He pointed to research underscoring the impact of environmental factors on cognitive abilities during exams, stressing that the stress of long-distance travel in freezing conditions hampers recall, concentration, and writing fluency.

Lone called on the university to prioritize the well-being of students from Kupwara, arguing that removing such logistical hurdles would create a level playing field for academic success. "Travelling 100-plus kilometers in biting cold is hardly an optimum start for exams," he said, urging immediate action to ensure fair access to education.

The appeal has sparked a wider debate on the need for equitable infrastructure in remote regions, with many on social media rallying behind Lone’s call. Will Kashmir University heed the request and alleviate the challenges faced by Kupwara’s aspiring students? Only time will tell.
