"Fayaz Mir Criticizes Advisor and Minister for Bypassing Institutional Protocols, Urges Respect for Legislative Supremacy".
Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir: In a strong rebuke to the government, Kupwara MLA Fayaz Mir expressed outrage over a text invitation sent by the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) for a meeting convened by an Advisor and a Minister. In a series of tweets, Mir raised serious questions about the protocol and dignity of elected representatives.
“I am a simple person and a grassroots worker. I have been chosen MLA by my people. The sanctity of the institution of MLA is under threat,” Mir stated. He emphasized his commitment to safeguarding the respect and authority of the legislature, asserting, “As long as I am the MLA, I will protect the sanctity of this institution.”
Mir questioned the government’s approach, asking, “What is the legal and political stature of the Advisor? Why does he instruct the DC, who then instructs his PA to send a text to MLAs? This undermines the authority and respect owed to us as elected representatives.”
The MLA also directed pointed advice to the Minister, urging greater respect for legislative protocols and institutional integrity. “If you are serious about restoring statehood and the supremacy of the Assembly, start by respecting your fellow MLAs. There are six MLAs in this district—call them directly if you mean business.”
Mir further criticized what he called “photo session governance,” advising both the Advisor and the Minister to focus on monitoring snow clearance operations rather than summoning officers for meetings. “Let officers do their work. If you need photo sessions, let me know—I’ll send a camera crew. Stop disrupting governance with unnecessary gatherings,” he remarked.
The MLA’s strong stance has reignited debates over the treatment of elected representatives and the need for institutional respect in governance, particularly as Jammu & Kashmir continues its transition toward statehood restoration.
