Srinagar, Jan 2: In a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, MLA Langate and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) leader Sheikh Khurshid accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises regarding electricity metering in Kashmir. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Khurshid criticized the government’s move to provide free 200 electricity units exclusively to metered areas, branding it a "new drama" and a "deceptive move."

"Is the Chief Minister unaware of his responsibilities? If he cannot fulfill this promise, he must apologize publicly," Khurshid declared.

The MLA questioned the timing and intent behind the metering initiative, pointing out that many areas remain without meters years after the government first raised the issue. While Khurshid clarified he is not opposed to metering, he demanded the process be expedited within a reasonable timeframe, urging the government to avoid delays spanning years.

Khurshid further insisted that the benefits extended to metered areas should also be offered to non-metered households, either in the form of monetary compensation or by accelerating the installation process. “This is not rocket science,” he stated.
