"In a series of powerful tweets, the Kashmiri leader underscores the dignity of Article 370, declares readiness to join a statehood protest, but warns against sidelining the larger fight for autonomy.
In a compelling call to action, Member of Parliament Agha Ruhullah Mehdi has reiterated his unwavering commitment to the restoration of Article 370 and the dignity it symbolizes for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Taking to Twitter, Mehdi reflected on the political and emotional upheaval caused by the 2019 abrogation, labeling it a calculated act of humiliation.
"After 2019, my political stance has been crystal clear," Mehdi stated, reminding his followers of his earliest public declarations in Budgam and across Kashmir. He emphasized the necessity of focusing on the restoration of Article 370 and the autonomy it enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
The MP expressed his readiness to participate in a protest for statehood in New Delhi and even pledged to garner support from over 100 fellow MPs for such an initiative. However, Mehdi made it clear that the fight for statehood must not overshadow the more profound battle for Kashmir’s honor and identity.
"The abrogation of Article 370 was a political statement, a declaration that our sacrifices mean nothing," he said. Mehdi described the move to downgrade Jammu & Kashmir to a Union Territory as a deliberate attempt to erode the region's dignity.
In a call to fellow Kashmiris and lawmakers across the country, Mehdi posed a critical question: "Shouldn’t our voices first rise for our honor, our identity, and the autonomy we have long been denied?" His impassioned plea came with an unwavering resolve: "I will keep raising mine, louder each time."
Mehdi’s tweets resonate with the enduring pain and resilience of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, encapsulated in his poignant reminder: "The tree remembers." As India prepares to commemorate its Constitution this January, Mehdi's clarion call serves as a reminder of the promises yet to be fulfilled and the dignity yet to be restored.
