34 Hours Without Electricity: Karnah Plunged into Darkness Amid Official Apathy

Karnah, Kupwara(TKG): The residents of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have been forced to endure an excruciating 34-hour-long power outage, exposing the inefficiency and negligence of the Power Development Department (PDD). The extended blackout has left thousands of people struggling in freezing temperatures, with no accountability from the concerned authorities.

The power disruption began on [insert exact date and time], cutting off electricity to the entire sub-division. With no immediate response from the PDD, residents found themselves grappling with extreme hardships—especially students, patients, and elderly citizens who rely on electricity for basic needs.

This prolonged outage raises serious questions: Is the PDD’s infrastructure in Karnah so outdated that it cannot handle power distribution efficiently? Or is it simply official negligence that has left people in darkness?

Residents complain that despite repeated assurances, the department has failed to provide a reliable power supply. “Every time there’s an outage, we are given vague excuses. Either they say equipment is outdated, or they blame the weather. But why hasn’t the administration done anything to fix this issue permanently?” asked a local shopkeeper.

One of the biggest concerns is the lack of backup solutions. In modern times, areas facing harsh winters should have alternative power arrangements. However, Karnah’s residents have been left to suffer without generators or any temporary relief measures.

“What is the administration waiting for? Do they expect people to survive without electricity for days? This is a humanitarian crisis,” said a resident.

As frustration grows, locals are demanding urgent action from the authorities. The lack of communication from officials has only intensified public anger. Calls to the PDD have reportedly gone unanswered, leaving people in uncertainty about when power will be restored.

The power crisis in Karnah is not a one-time incident. Frequent outages and delayed responses have become the norm, making life unbearable for residents. If the administration does not act now, this situation is bound to repeat, pushing the region further into darkness—both literally and figuratively.

It is high time for the government to intervene and address the power crisis in Karnah. Whether it’s upgrading infrastructure, ensuring quick repairs, or providing alternative solutions, something needs to change. Until then, the people of Karnah continue to suffer, abandoned by the very system that is supposed to serve them.
