₹7.8 Crore Gold Coin Haul: Customs Seize Over 10 Kg from Kashmir Duo at IGI Airport

Smugglers Hid Gold in Ingenious Waist Belts; Arrested on Arrival from Milan
New Delhi: In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport seized over 10 kg of gold coins valued at ₹7.8 crore from two Kashmir residents arriving from Milan on Flight AI-138. The smugglers had concealed the gold in specially designed waist belts, attempting to evade detection.

The duo was intercepted by Customs officers based on intelligence inputs. A thorough search revealed the cleverly hidden contraband, exposing yet another sophisticated smuggling attempt. Both passengers were immediately taken into custody, and investigations under the Customs Act, 1962, are currently underway.

Authorities suspect the operation could be linked to a larger international smuggling network. The seizure highlights the growing trend of gold smuggling through innovative concealment methods as Customs officials continue to tighten surveillance at India’s busiest airport.

Further interrogations are expected to uncover more details about the source and intended recipients of the smuggled gold.
