"Vice President GN Shaheen Leads High-Level Meeting in Jammu; Calls Out Political Victimization of Incarcerated MP".
Jammu, February 9: In a significant political development, a high-level delegation of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), led by Vice President GN Shaheen, visited Jammu and convened an important meeting with political activists, social leaders, and AIP workers. The meeting, attended by senior party figures including Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, Gazanfar Ali Mir, and Aijaz Yousuf, focused on expanding AIP’s organizational presence in Jammu division while also addressing pressing political issues.
The party resolved to strengthen its foothold in the region, appointing Amarjeet Singh as District President Jammu and Anil Kumar as District Secretary Jammu, with Sardar Harnans Singh and Sardar Narinder Singh taking on advisory roles. The newly appointed leadership pledged to spearhead AIP’s outreach ahead of the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) and Municipal elections, vowing to mobilize public support for the party’s vision.
During the meeting, absolute solidarity was expressed with detained leader Engineer Rashid, who remains incarcerated and on a hunger strike. The party raised serious concerns over his deteriorating health, holding the central government responsible for its indifferent and punitive approach. The AIP accused the authorities of politically victimizing Engineer Rashid, depriving him of his constitutional right to liberty and freedom of expression.
“As an elected Member of Parliament, Engineer Rashid deserves to be in the legislature, representing his people, not behind bars. His continued detention is nothing short of institutional injustice,” GN Shaheen stated.
The meeting concluded with a resolute appeal for Engineer Rashid’s immediate and honorable release, urging the government to uphold democratic values and stop the political persecution of Kashmiri leaders.
