Baramulla, Sopore – February 16: The Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) held a convention today at Dangerpora Warpora, Sopore, chaired by Vice President Advocate G.N. Shaheen and attended by senior party leaders, including Mr. Parvaiz, Sheikh Feroz, Syed Uzzair, Showkat Pandith, Tanveer Dar, District President Qayoom Wani, and Block President Syed Ilyas, along with other party workers.
However, MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed was reportedly barred from attending the meeting due to security restrictions, raising concerns over political freedom in the region.
Addressing the gathering, senior AIP leader Showkat Pandith strongly criticized mainstream political parties for neglecting the people’s issues. "Engineer Rashid’s 30-second speech in Parliament shook all of Kashmir, while other MPs remain silent, ignoring the sufferings of the people. The JKNC has done nothing but betray Kashmiris," he said.
The party laid strong emphasis on the immediate release of Engineer Rashid, who remains incarcerated, calling his imprisonment a "political vendetta against a voice of truth."
The convention also called for a strict ban on liquor and gambling games in Jammu and Kashmir, condemning their negative impact on society. The leaders urged the administration to take concrete steps to protect Kashmiri culture and moral values.
Speaking at the event, AIP Vice President Advocate G.N. Shaheen stressed the need for unity among Kashmiris. "We must rise above divisions and work together for our rights. Our struggle is not just political but a fight for justice, dignity, and truth. The continued imprisonment of Engineer Rashid is a direct attack on democratic values, and we will not remain silent," he asserted.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to the people’s rights, justice, and the ongoing political struggle in Jammu and Kashmir, vowing to continue their movement despite challenges and obstacles.
