"AIMIM Chief Blames Modi Govt for Police Brutality, Calls for Immediate Suspension and Criminal Action".
New Delhi/Srinagar: All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly condemned the alleged custodial torture of a man in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir, which reportedly led him to die by suicide. Calling it a “brazen abuse of power,” Owaisi held the Modi government accountable, stating that since Jammu & Kashmir was made a Union Territory, it is the Centre’s duty to prevent such police brutality.
The incident has triggered widespread anger, with locals and human rights activists demanding justice. Owaisi has called for the immediate suspension of the accused officers and their superiors and has urged the government to initiate criminal proceedings under Article 311 of the Constitution.
"This is not just a case of police excess but a systemic failure under the current regime. The Centre must take full responsibility and act against those guilty of this inhuman act," Owaisi said in a statement.
The opposition has also raised concerns over increasing instances of police high-handedness in Jammu & Kashmir, questioning the law and order situation under direct central rule.
As outrage builds, the J&K administration and the Union Home Ministry are yet to respond to the demands for action. Meanwhile, the victim’s family continues to seek justice and accountability, refusing to let the matter be silenced.
