"Justice Mahajan Issues Notice to High Court Registrar General"
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday heard the plea for interim bail filed by Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to allow him to attend the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued a notice to the Registrar General of the High Court and scheduled the matter for the next hearing on February 6.
Engineer Rashid, an independent MP from Jammu and Kashmir, is currently in judicial custody in connection with a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). His legal team has argued that, as an elected representative, he has a constitutional obligation to participate in parliamentary proceedings.
The plea emphasizes the fundamental right of an MP to represent the people of their constituency in the highest legislative body of the country. It also raises concerns over the denial of participation in crucial debates, including the Union Budget discussions, which directly impact the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Delhi High Court's decision on this matter could set a significant precedent regarding the rights of incarcerated lawmakers. The outcome of the February 6 hearing will be closely watched by legal experts, political analysts, and the people of Baramulla.
Meanwhile, supporters of Er Rashid have intensified their demand for his release, arguing that his continued absence from Parliament undermines democratic representation. The legal and political battle over his participation in legislative affairs is expected to gain momentum in the coming days.
