Iltija Mufti Alleges House Arrest, Says ‘Even Comforting Victims’ Families is a Crime Now

Former CM Mehbooba Mufti and Daughter Barred from Visiting Victims’ Families
Srinagar: Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has alleged that both she and her mother have been placed under house arrest. Taking to social media, Iltija claimed that their residence was locked to prevent them from visiting families affected by recent violence in the region.

"Our gates have been locked up because my mother was meant to visit Sopore, where Waseem Mir was shot dead by the army. I intended to visit Kathua to meet Makhan Din’s family today, but I am not being allowed to move out," Iltija wrote.

She further lamented that despite elections being over, Kashmir remains unchanged, with authorities cracking down even on those seeking to express solidarity with victims. "Now even comforting the families of victims is being criminalized," she said.

This development comes amid heightened tensions in Jammu and Kashmir following recent civilian deaths, sparking fresh debates over restrictions on political leaders and activists. Authorities have not yet issued a statement on the allegations.
