J&K Power Dept an ‘Extortion Machine,’ Bleeding the Poor:MLA Pulwama Waheed Parra

MLA Pulwama Slams Government for Forcing Exorbitant Electricity Bills on EWS, BPL Families Amid Inflation Crisis
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Pulwama, Waheed Parra, has strongly criticized the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD), calling it an "extortion machine" that is relentlessly imposing excessive electricity bills on even the poorest residents.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Parra highlighted the plight of EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, who, despite struggling to meet basic daily needs, are being forced to pay thousands in monthly electricity bills. "While inflation crushes the poor, the government watches in silence as JKPDD bleeds them dry," Parra remarked.

Citing the case of Ab Ahad Wani from Pulwama, Parra painted a grim picture of how the power department has abandoned the most vulnerable. "PDD is no longer a public service; it has turned into a commercial entity serving capitalist interests," he alleged.

In a direct appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the PDP leader urged the government to reconsider these “unjust electricity bills” before finalizing budget allocations. "The CM must intervene immediately and put an end to this exploitation," Parra demanded.

As public anger over rising electricity tariffs grows, all eyes are now on the administration to see if it will address the concerns of the struggling population or continue to let the crisis escalate.
