"Deputy Commissioner Kupwara orders IEC activities every Monday to combat drug abuse, ensuring participation from key officials and the community".
Karnah, February 15, 2025 – In a significant move to combat the rising menace of drug abuse, the Tehsildar Karnah has issued an official directive mandating weekly Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities on drug abuse, treatment, and rehabilitation at the Panchayat level every Monday. This initiative follows the directives of the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, aiming for widespread awareness and rehabilitation efforts.
According to the order, all relevant government officers, local representatives, and community leaders have been instructed to actively participate in these awareness drives. The committee includes Block Medical Officers, Education Officers, Station House Officers, Range Officers, and representatives from social welfare organizations. Additionally, local Asha and Anganwadi workers, medical shop owners, and community elders have been asked to ensure maximum outreach and engagement, especially among the youth.
The initiative will focus on educating people about the dangers of substance abuse, available rehabilitation measures, and the role of law enforcement in curbing the drug trade. Special emphasis will be placed on encouraging community-driven solutions, with Panchayat representatives and SHG (Self-Help Group) members leading local campaigns.
Authorities believe that sustained efforts at the grassroots level will help curb the growing drug problem in the region. The program also assigns responsibility to chowkidars and lambardars to promote the campaign and ensure larger public participation.
The administration has called for strict compliance with the directives, warning that any lapses will be taken seriously. By involving medical professionals, law enforcement, and educators, this initiative aims to not only spread awareness but also create a robust support system for those affected by drug addiction.
The directive has been officially communicated to the Worthy Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Karnah for monitoring and implementation.
This bold step marks a crucial intervention in the fight against drug addiction, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the youth and ensuring a healthier future for the region.
