Kashmir on Alert: Kupwara Admin Issues Weather Advisory Amid Heavy Snowfall Forecast

Authorities Warn of Avalanches and Travel Disruptions in Border Areas

Kupwara, February 25, 2025(TKG) – The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kupwara has issued a high-alert weather advisory warning residents and travelers of heavy rain, snowfall, and thunderstorms expected from the evening of February 25 to February 28, 2025. The advisory, issued to safeguard lives and property, urges people, particularly those in Keran, Karnah, Machil, Budnamal, Jumugund, and Kumkadi, to refrain from venturing into avalanche-prone and landslide-prone areas.

The administration has restricted travel to border regions without proper weather updates and essential equipment. No motor vehicles without anti-skid chains will be permitted in affected areas during inclement weather.

In a strong directive, all disaster response teams, police, irrigation, flood control, and public works departments have been instructed to stay on high alert, ensuring readiness of men and machinery. The authorities have urged the public to stay informed through the Disaster Management Control Room and police helplines.

With a history of severe weather-related tragedies in North Kashmir’s higher reaches, the Kupwara administration’s timely advisory underscores the urgency of preparedness and caution as another spell of harsh winter weather looms over the region.
