NIA Opposes Jailed J&K MP Er Rashid’s Plea for Interim Bail to Attend Parliament

"Court Hearing Set for February 4 as Former Legislator Seeks Release for Budget Session"
New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday strongly opposed the interim bail plea of jailed Jammu and Kashmir MP Engineer Rashid in the Delhi High Court, arguing against his request to attend the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament.

Rashid, who has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in a 2017 terror funding case, had moved the court seeking temporary bail to fulfill his parliamentary duties. The Budget Session, which commenced on January 31, will conclude on April 4.

The Delhi High Court is set to hear Rashid’s plea on February 4, where his legal team is expected to argue for his right to represent his constituents in Parliament. However, the NIA has maintained a firm stance, citing the gravity of charges against him.

The case has drawn significant political attention, with Rashid’s supporters claiming his prolonged detention is politically motivated, while authorities insist it is a matter of national security.

As the court hearing approaches, all eyes remain on the judicial proceedings, which will determine whether Rashid will be granted the opportunity to step into Parliament or continue his incarceration.
