"Student body warns of unrest if government delays merit-based reforms in J&K’s reservation policy"
Jammu & Kashmir's Open Merit Student Association (OMSJK) has issued a strong ultimatum to the government, demanding immediate action on long-promised reservation reforms. The student body has called for a halt in all recruitment processes until fair and merit-based policies are implemented.
OMSAJK criticized the authorities for failing to fulfill commitments made over a month ago, warning that the patience of J&K’s youth should not be mistaken for weakness. “Delays are fueling distress among students and job aspirants. The government must act now,” the statement read.
The association outlined four urgent demands: EWS reform to relax residential criteria while rationalizing reservations, strict enforcement of SRO-49 to ensure merit-based admissions in specialty courses, amendment of Rule-17 to address job and admission concerns, and correction of excessive horizontal reservations to restore fairness in the system.
With rising frustration among students, OMSAJK has made it clear—time for discussions is over, and immediate action is the only acceptable response.
