Baramulla, February 25: Former President of the Municipal Council Baramulla, Touseef Raina, has called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to introduce a dedicated grievance portal where complaints and concerns regarding legislators can be officially registered.
Raina emphasized that such a platform would enhance transparency and accountability, allowing citizens to report any misconduct or mismanagement by elected representatives. He further alleged that certain legislators are pressuring employees to allocate benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to their party workers instead of deserving beneficiaries. "PMAY is meant for those in genuine need, but political favoritism is depriving rightful recipients," Raina stated, urging the administration to ensure a fair and unbiased distribution of housing assistance.
Additionally, Raina pressed for the regularization of mining activities, asserting that this sector serves as the primary livelihood for many poor laborers in the region. He highlighted that illegal restrictions and inconsistent policies have severely impacted the earnings of daily wage earners who depend on mining for survival. "A structured and legal framework for mining will not only help workers sustain their families but also contribute to the local economy," he said.
Raina raised concerns over the poor infrastructure of the Baramulla Vehicle Stand, stating that it has become a major inconvenience for daily commuters.
He also demanded urgent renovation of Azadgunj Bus Stand, citing lack of basic facilities and poor maintenance.
He urged the administration to upgrade these essential public spaces to ensure smooth transportation and convenience for locals.
