Srinagar: The much-anticipated launch of the Vande Bharat train in Kashmir, set to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 17, has been postponed indefinitely, official sources confirmed.
News agency JKNS quoted officials stating that no official communiqué ever confirmed the February 17 inauguration, dismissing earlier reports as speculation.
The train, designed for extreme winter conditions withstanding temperatures as low as -20°C, was set to operate on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). Notable infrastructure along the route includes the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River (359m) and the Anji Khad Bridge with its towering 331-meter-high pylon.
Covering 150 km in just 2 hours and 30 minutes, the train was expected to revolutionize rail connectivity in the region. However, with no new launch date announced, uncertainty looms over the project's commencement.
