With NH-701 Sadhna closed from past 10 days, grieving family and villagers demand urgent action while officials continue to neglect their plight
KUPWARA, MARCH 6(TKG): The residents of Khawarpara in Karnah, North Kashmir, staged a protest against the administration’s failure to bring back the body of a deceased boy. The grieving family has been waiting in agony for the past four days to perform his last rites, but with National Highway 701 Sadhna closed for over ten days, no arrangements have been made to transport the body.
Every day, the family is given false assurances that a helicopter will arrive with the body, yet nothing happens. "We have been hearing for days that the heli will come today, but the administration keeps neglecting us. How long will they make us suffer?" said an angry protester.
The villagers accused the authorities of failing to address their plight, leaving them completely cut off. "It is not just about one body; this is about our survival. The road closure has left us stranded with no essentials, and now we cannot even bury our dead with dignity," said another resident.
As the deadlock continues, protests are intensifying, with people demanding immediate action to either clear NH-701 Sadhna or arrange alternative transportation for the deceased’s body. The residents warned of stronger demonstrations if the administration fails to respond.
With frustration mounting and a mourning family still waiting for closure, the people of Khawarpara now urge authorities to act before the crisis worsens.
