Heavy Snowfall and Rain Trigger High Avalanche Risk on Chowkibal-Sadhna Pass-Tangdhar Road
Karnah,4March(TKG): The Chowkibal-Sadhna Pass-Tangdhar (NH-701) highway remains highly unsafe for travel due to heavy snowfall and continuous rainfall over the past few days. Authorities have issued an Avalanche Warning Level 4, indicating a severe risk of slides and avalanches.
Given the extreme conditions, movement by foot or vehicle is strictly discouraged. Even the deployment of heavy machinery for snow clearance is currently not possible, as the risk to personnel and equipment remains high.
Despite the challenges, snow clearance operations have begun in relatively safer zones:
✅ Teepee to Chowkibal (Approx. 10 km) – Clearance underway
✅ Tangdhar to SM Hill (Approx. 3 km) – Clearance in progress
Officials have stated that if the weather remains stable and no fresh snowfall occurs, full-scale clearance operations will resume tomorrow morning to restore connectivity. Travelers are advised to stay updated and avoid any movement on the highway until further notice.
