Srinagar, 17 Sep: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has not set up any exam centre in Kashmir for the aspirants of JEE advance exam, evoking massive resentment among the aspirants who have qualified the JEE Mains-2020 exams and are likely to compete in the JEE advance exam scheduled on September 27.

While the JEE Mains exam was conducted by NTA, the JEE Advance exam will be conducted by IIT, Delhi. “We have no role in conducting JEE Advance exam. It will be conducted by IIT Delhi. The issue of allocating exam centres can be resolved by them,” Director NTA, Vineet Joshi told Greater Kashmir on phone from New Delhi.

The aspirants have called the move unjustified. “We are subjected to mental trauma every time by the national level exam conducting body. When we appeared in JEE Mains exam within the valley why can’t we have exam centres for JEE Advance here as well. It is not possible for me to attend the exam in Jammu or any other state to appear in the exam” said an aspirant.

He said their exam centres should have been set up in the colleges at district level keeping in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “Due to the ongoing pandemic, people are advised to avoid unnecessary travel but unfortunately, the authorities are making our exam a costly affair and putting our lives at risk by designating our exam centres outside the valley,” the aspirant said.

“It is not for the first time when students have been put to mental trauma but they do it every year by not allocating exam centres to Kashmir for all exams,” another aspirant said.
Director National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, Rakesh Sehgal said he has taken up the matter with the Director IIT, Delhi.
“I have talked to the director of the IIT about the grievance of students and he assured me that the matter will be resolved. He will take up the issue with concerned authorities,” Sehgal said.

Advisor to J&K Lieutenant Governor (LG) K K Sharma also said the matter will be looked into. “It is an important issue. I have talked to concerned people in IIT Delhi. They are counting the number of students from Kashmir. They will come back with feedback this evening,” he said.
